Tournament Rules

  1. The Tournament will be played under Match Play Format: Match play is a format where golfers compete hole-by-hole rather than counting strokes over an entire round. The goal is to win more holes than the opponent. Matches will be individual, one player versus another.

  2. Scoring:  In match play, each hole is a separate contest. The player with the lowest score on a hole wins that hole. The match score is calculated based on the number of holes won. If both players achieve the same score on a hole, the hole is halved and neither player wins that hole.

  3. Eligibility to Play:  Players must be at least 18 years of age and hold a USGA golf handicap in order to receive strokes.  Players who do not hold USGA handicaps are welcome to compete, but they will not receive strokes.  Players without USGA handicaps are actively encouraged to register for their USGA handicap as soon as possible in order to benefit from strokes received (Note: You will need to play a few rounds and input your scores in order to receive a registered handicap prior to signing up for the People’s Tournament). Professionals are not permitted to participate in the People’s Tournament, which is strictly for amateur golfers only.

  4. Concession of Strokes:  One unique aspect of match play is the ability to concede strokes, holes, or even the match itself. This can be done to speed up play or as a strategic move. For instance, a player may concede a short putt to their opponent if the outcome of the hole is already determined.

  5. Penalties and Infractions:  If a rules infraction occurs during a match, the standard Rules of Golf apply. Players are responsible for knowing and applying these rules or calling penalties on themselves or their opponents as necessary. This ensures fairness and sportsmanship throughout the competition.

  6. Handicap Allowances:  In match play tournaments, handicap allowances may be used to level the playing field. This adjusts the number of strokes given or received based on each player's handicap index. Handicap allowances are typically established before the start of the tournament to ensure equitable competition. The strokes are allocated according to the handicap index difference between the players granting strokes to specific holes based on their stroke index or rating on the scorecard.

  7. Order of Play:  The player who won the previous hole has the honor of teeing off first on the next hole.

  8. Steps to Enter the People’s Tournament:

    1. Sign-up on the Registration Page

    2. Make your Player Registration Fee payment via your banking app as set out on the registration page. You will not need to pay at the time of registration.  The registration secures your place in the tournament.  We will e-mail you within a maximum of 3 days after your registration is submitted to confirm your place in the tournament and provide you with your competitor i/d number.  From that point, you will need to make your payment within 21 days (quoting your competitor i/d number).  In the event of the tournament competitor fee not being made within the quoted 21-day window, your registration in the tournament will be void.

    3. Million Dollar Round LLC will advise you of the actual event start date by e-mail.

    4. You and your first-round opponent will be provided with eachother’s contact details (e-mail and telephone) by e-mail.

    5. You will have 21 days from the date of that e-mail to make contact with your opponent, schedule your match, play your match, and advise Million Dollar Round of the result.  This will be done by submitting a screenshot of your score card, signed and counter signed by both competitors. Both winner and loser must submit their signed and counter signed score card.

    6. The winner will progress to the next round and the loser will be eliminated as this is a knock out event.

    7. This process will repeat through each round.

    8. Once only the last 4 players remain, players and their significant other will be flown at Million Dollar Round LLC’s expense to a destination of Million Dollar Round’s choice, where the final rounds will take place.  You and your guest will be accommodated at Million Dollar Round’s expense in a luxury hotel by the course for 3 x nights. There will be a welcome dinner hosted by the board of Million Dollar Round LLC.

    9. On the day after your arrival, the 2 x semi-final rounds will be played.

    10. On the following day, the final round will be played for winner and runner up positions, and the 3rd and 4th place play off round will also be played.

    11. There will be a dinner and check presentation to round off the event. You and your significant other will fly home the next day

  9. Cancellation of Event by Million Dollar Round:  In the event that Million Dollar Round LLC needs to cancel the event prior to the event start date, a full refund will be made within 48 hours of cancellation.

  10. Cancellation by Competitors:  Once a player has submitted his or her registration and payment, the competitor will have no cancellation or withdrawal option, regardless of circumstances.

  11. Reporting Result:  Results with signed and counter-signed score cards must be submitted by both players to Million Dollar Round no later than the end of the 21-day timeline applicable at each successive round.

  12. Reporting by both players:  Both players must send an e-mail with a screenshot of the signed and counter-signed score cards (obviously these must match eachother).

  13. Failure by One Player to Report Results:  If one player fails to submit their result reporting e-mail by the end of the 21-day window, then the player failing to report will be disqualified, regardless of the actual result. A player who wins the match but fails to report the result within the requisite timeframe will be disqualified and the win will be awarded to the opponent, regardless of the actual match score.

  14. Failure by Both Players to Report Results:  If both players fail to report the result, both players will be disqualified and the player from another bracket due to match up against the winner of the unreported result will receive a bye and automatically progress to the following round.

  15. Dispute Resolution: Any disputes which were not able to be resolved between the 2 players must be reported to Million Dollar Round LLC, whose board will review the specifics and issue a final ruling within no more than 5 business days. The board’s ruling will be final, and players undertake to accept this ruling as final resolution.

  16. Timeframes:  All timeframes will be counted from 12:01am on the day following the triggering event and end at 11:59pm on the end date.

  17. Unable to play the match:  In the event of inclement weather effecting play, players will reschedule their match to take place at a later date within the originally allocated 21-day window. If there is no let-up in weather within the allocated time, it will be incumbent upon the players to relocate their match to an area where play is practical. In the event that 1 player is unable to play their match, they will forfeit the round to their opponent who will automatically move forward to the next round. If neither player is able to play the round within the allocated timeframe, both players will be eliminated from the tournament.

  18. Player cancellation:  Once players have registered and paid, there will be no provision for player cancellation regardless of circumstances or reasons.

  19. Tiebreakers:  If a match is tied after 18 holes, a sudden death playoff will be played to determine the winner. The first player to win a hole wins the match. This sudden death format continues until one side wins a hole outright.

  20. No tee times available for sudden death:  In the event that there is no availability on the course to play tiebreaker holes when the match is tied after 18 holes,  players will play a putt-off on the practice green consisting of (5) holes at a minimum of 25’ in distance on each hole.  Coin flip will determine who chooses the first hole.  You will play all (5) holes and the winner is determined by the least number of strokes in total, aggregated across all 5 holes.  If tied after the first (5) holes you will move into a sudden death putt-off with the first hole won defining the winner of the match.

  21. Travel Expenses:  Once a player reaches the latter rounds in the tournament, there is a likelihood that their matches may be drawn against out of State opponents.  In that case, both players travel expenses will be their own responsibility.  Only travel relating to the final 4 players remaining in the Tournament will be covered by Million Dollar Round.
